Indian on the Lawn: The Walk

My dad, Dennis McPherson, walked to Ottawa from Thunder Bay as an action research project after experiencing systemic racism at Lakehead University. My mom, Tracy Shields, drove long distances in order to prepare dinner for him. These dinners took place in the ditch as that was where my dad could exercise his Aboriginal right to use unoccupied Crown land.

The reasons why my dad walked to Ottawa continue to persist today. More information on the context of the walk can be found here: https://cdn.ymaws.com/www.apaonline.org/resource/collection/13B1F8E6-0142-45FD-A626-9C4271DC6F62/American_IndiansV05n2.pdf
